Hong Kong Implements "Well-Being Design" Guide For Public Housing

The Housing Bureau and Housing Authority (HA) has implemented a resident-oriented "Well-being design" guide, which will be the design reference of new and existing public housing estates.

The guide consists of eight booklets, namely "Health & Vitality," "Green Living & Sustainability," "Age-Friendliness," "Intergenerational & Inclusive Living," "Family & Community Connection," "Urban Integration," "Upward Mobility," and "Perception & Image".

A team researched 26 housing estates and collected first-hand opinions from 3,000 residents to ensure practical suggestions were included.

For instance, the guide proposes to provide leaning benches for residents to rest on for an entrance lobby. Hand rails and hanging hooks can be installed next to mailboxes so that residents are able to free their hands whilst collecting their letters.

The "Well-being design" guide also integrates HA's building and management experience from the past 50 years.

Meanwhile, the Housing Department has also conducted improvements at 10 housing estates, as well as to completed landscaping works for 20 housing estates.

Housing Department Maintenance Surveyor Sylvia Mok said that they hope to encourage residents to come out and visit the neighbourhood through the project.
