What does interior design mean to you?
With 25 years of experience in interior design, I've had the privilege of turning my passion into a thriving business. Over the past 12 years, my company has grown steadily, driven by my love for bringing spaces to life. Design is not just a profession, but an integral part of my being. I pour my heart and soul into every project, seeking to infuse each space with warmth and character.
Which space do you enjoy designing the most?
My favourite spaces to design are those that evoke emotions, particularly kitchens, where families share moments and create memories. Bathrooms, too, hold significance, and I enjoy crafting these essential areas with care. I also relish designing unconventional spaces like wardrobes, where creativity and functionality intersect. As a designer, I continually seek innovative ideas and approaches, always pushing the boundaries of what's possible.
How do you strike a balance between modernity & traditional elements in design?
Understanding my clients' lifestyle, habits, and preferences is paramount in designing their dream home. I'm passionate about my work, and it doesn't feel like a job – it's a labour of love. When you enjoy what you do, it shows in the results. What drives my passion for design is the joy of transforming houses into homes. I'm obsessed with getting it right, and that obsession stems from my love for what I do. Designing isn't just a job; it's my passion.
What is your approach to sustainable design?
As designers, it's crucial we move beyond just advocating for sustainability and actively incorporate eco-friendly elements into our work. By doing so, clients become more receptive to sustainable design, allowing us to integrate environmentally responsible features into their spaces. Additionally, addressing waste management and recycling is vital for truly sustainable practices. I've made this a priority in my own work and strive to continue pushing the boundaries of environmentally conscious design.
What is that one message for young aspiring interior designers?
Instead of blindly following trends, aspiring designers should tap into their personal passions and life experiences. Infusing emotion and authenticity into their work will yield timeless designs that transcend short-lived trends.
